Silver Jewelry
Silver jewelry can include rings, earrings, necklaces,
bracelets and belts. Silver is less expensive than gold, but is still
considered precious. Beads, bone, gems, diamonds, plastic, glass, enamel
and wood have all been set in silver.
Silver jewelry has been crafted and worn for hundreds of years. Unlike
blacksmithing, silver is worked at room temperature using gentle folds
and delicate hammering. Some is even worked from a thin sheet of silver.
Silver jewelry is stamped with a hallmark to indicate its maker. It
is also stamped with a number indicating its purity. The stamp varies
slightly by location but is usually seen as “925” or .925.
